Treatment of Congenital Heart Disease
The treatment of congenital heart disease is multidisciplinary. In some cases they require medication, including anticoagulation. The vast majority of patients undergo surgery by repairing defects or correcting cardiac function, as the technique of choice, and when this is not possible, prostheses are implanted.
The following are used: biological or mechanical valve prostheses, vascular grafts and patches. This surgery is sometimes minimally invasive.
In addition, there has been great progress in the percutaneous treatment of congenital heart disease, which allows many defects to be corrected in a less aggressive way. In some cases, with arrhythmic disorders, even triple-chamber pacemakers and automatic defibrillators are required.
