Endometriosis is one of the most common benign gynecological diseases and affects 10% of women of childbearing age. The tissue that forms the lining of the uterus, or endometrial lining, usually develops within the uterine cavity. In endometriosis, for some unknown reason, this tissue grows in other areas of the pelvis and, sometimes, even entirely outside it. It is one of the leading causes of pelvic pain and reproductive problems in women.
