The activity of the Medicine Area is mainly carried out in the following areas:

  • Pharmacy and Therapeutics Commission. The Hospital Clínic's Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee meets once a month and is made up of pharmacists with representatives from each of the Hospital's institutes. In 2024, the request for the inclusion of 66 new drugs was processed. Of these requests, 55 new drugs were approved for inclusion.
  • Subcommittee on Medicines in Special Situations (SCMSE): This is a subcommittee under the Hospital's Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (CFT), to which it reports periodically. Its mission is to evaluate requests for medicines in special situations at the Hospital in order to ensure their use is based on clinically agreed and standardized criteria across all Hospital Institutes, ensuring the follow-up of the clinical outcomes achieved. In 2024, 530 requests were evaluated, of which 502 were approved.
  • Medicine Research Ethics Committee (CEIm). The Medicine Research Ethics Committee (CEIm) is a multidisciplinary group of people who, following the international recommendations on ethics in research and the legislation currently in force, have as their main function to ensure the protection of the rights, safety and well-being of people participating in clinical trials and research projects. For this reason, every year 850 projects and 400 amendments are evaluated and a total of 1,500 documentary records are collected (security reports, project status reports and results reports). It also offers advice and guidance to researchers on ethical, methodological, statistical and administrative issues.
