Teaching - Anaesthesia Department Service

Numerous professionals from the Department of Anesthesiology carry out teaching activities at different levels:

Undergraduate

The Anaesthesiology Department has a long tradition of training undergraduate students. The training offered in relation to Anaesthesiology within the Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine (Campus Clínic of the University of Barcelona), consists of the core subjects "Fundamentals of Surgery, Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation" and "Anatomy and Embryology of Organs and Systems", and the optional subjects "Life-Threatening Situations" and "Pain Management"; and in the Bachelor’s Degree programme in Biomedical Engineering, it consists of the subject "Medical Applications of Engineering III".  They also supervise Final Degree Projects.

Postgrade

Training of Resident Physicians (MIR) in the specialty of:

  • Anestesiología y Reanimación

Specialized Healthcare Training (SHT) in Health Sciences is based on the residency programme, which has been evolving for more than 35 years.

The current training programme in anaesthesiology and resuscitation was last updated in 1996, although a new programme based on skills training is currently being developed.

The Hospital Clínic training programme takes on six of its own residents each year, in addition to regular residents from other centres and residents who request external training on an ad hoc basis. There are five resident tutors accredited by the Department of Health.

Within the SHT, the Anaesthesiology Department has a training programme based on clinical simulation with scenarios structured according to the year of training, which are worked on throughout the residency.
