Postgraduate
The General and Digestive Surgery Department is accredited to train four residents in our specialty each year. The general objectives and competencies they must acquire, in accordance with the specialty programme, are defined in the Training Itinerary.
The first objective must be to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable a professional to competently and responsibly perform the functions that primarily correspond to General and Digestive Surgery, both in relation to elective and urgent surgical problems and in the setting of a regional hospital or a referral hospital.
The second objective of the programme is to begin complementary training in one of the areas of training or special interest, depending on the circumstances of each resident and each hospital. Upon completion of the residency, the degree of involvement of a specialist in any of these areas will depend on the progress of each surgeon, the needs of the population, and the hospital context in which they carry out their professional activity.
The third fundamental objective of the programme is to provide residents with adequate training in research so that they acquire a critical and open mindset in the face of the avalanche of information regarding advances and new technologies that will arise throughout their professional lives. Research also allows residents to become aware that, from their workplace, whatever it may be, they can contribute to the progress of medical science.
