In the Merco Salud 2025 ranking, presented today in Madrid, Clínic Barcelona has been named the third best public hospital in Spain. Hospital Universitario La Paz and Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón ranked first and second, respectively. In Catalonia, Clínic is followed by Vall d’Hebron, which holds fifth place in the national ranking. This year’s edition includes a total of 40 hospital services.
According to the ranking of the best clinical services, Clínic stands out with five specialties ranked first: Digestive System, Hematology, Nephrology, Radiodiagnosis and Urology. Nine other services are ranked second: Clinical Analysis, Dermatology, Endocrinology and Nutrition, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pulmonology, Psychiatry and Otorhinolaryngology. Two services appear in third place: General Surgery and Ophthalmology.
At the Catalan level, Clínic leads with 18 specialties ranked first: Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, Digestive System, Clinical Analysis, Dermatology, Endocrinology and Nutrition, Hematology, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Psychiatry, Radiodiagnosis, Rheumatology and Urology.
The monitor also evaluates hospital management and leadership. In this area, Clínic ranks third in the category of Best Communication Team.
The survey was conducted by Merco Salud, the only independent study that assesses the reputation of Spain’s entire healthcare system. It is based on 11,010 surveys completed by doctors, nurses, patient associations, health journalists, hospital managers, nursing coordinators, public health administrators, hospital pharmacy managers and pharmaceutical company executives.
