Participate in vaccines and monoclonal antibodies clinical trials for the prevention of diseases.
The Department of Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology participates in multiple approved clinical trials on vaccines and monoclonal antibodies.
- Vaccines: A vaccine is a product (liquid, aerosol or pill) that is administered to mimic a natural infection with the objective that the body will generate antibodies (defences) against the infection.
- Monoclonal antibodies: Monoclonal antibodies are molecules produced in the laboratory whose function is to act like human antibodies to prevent and/or fight an infection.
Vaccines and monoclonal antibodies are used for the prevention of infectious diseases. Prior to its approval and introduction to the market, studies are required to evaluate their safety and efficacy for which volunteers are needed.
