The Thoracic Surgery Service is part of the Respiratory Institute of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. It offers assistance focused on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the chest organs, except heart disease.

The Thoracic Surgery Service works in coordination with the Pneumology and Allergy Service and forms part of several areas:

  • Thoracic Tumors Area. Cases of cancer of the lung, mediastinum, pleura, chest wall and lung metastases of other origins are jointly assessed with the different specialists involved (radiologists, oncologists, radiotherapists, pulmonologists, pathologists and nuclear medicine doctors).
  • Intensive Respiratory Monitoring Area (UVIR). Area where the immediate post-operative care of patients undergoing major thoracic surgery is carried out.
  • Respiratory Endoscopy Area. Collaborates in the diagnosis and endoscopic treatment of airway disease.

The Thoracic Surgery Service is made up of seven thoracic surgeons. The nursing team, the patient manager and the administration staff are also key to the operation of the service.
