The Hepatic Oncology Unit carries out intensive teaching activities that are inextricably linked to research and care, focusing on patients with liver tumours. In this regard, it should be noted that, as a group involving various specialties and fields of knowledge, the training is broad, covering a wide range of areas.
Courses are developed that focus on all aspects of liver cancer, and smaller groups focus on more specific problems, such as the treatment or radiological evaluation of patients treated with immunotherapy. The BCLC group develops the BCLC UPDATE every year, which features world leaders and participants from around the globe. It also organizes preceptors focused on spreading the BCLC philosophy.
In addition, with the support of the Hospital Clínic's Patient Experience Observatory, activities and workshops are developed for patients, family members, caregivers, and the general public, led by the Unit's advanced practice nurses. During these activities, topics of interest such as nutrition and clinical research are discussed, with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of the concerns and needs of both patients and caregivers in order to improve care.
Research stays
There are currently two types of training stays focused on research: short stays (minimum 2 months) and long stays (minimum 12 months).
Master's degrees and continuing education
At the same time, members of the group participate in undergraduate and postgraduate training at the University of Barcelona and the University of Lleida, as well as in official master's degree programmes in Catalonia and Spain.
The Unit's professionals participate in postgraduate courses offered by scientific societies, as well as in symposia and conferences organized by these societies.
