Teaching - Unit of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The teaching objective of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit at Hospital Clínic is the undergraduate and residency training of Gastroenterology specialists in the essential concepts of the disease and multidisciplinary clinical practice, as well as postgraduate training for physicians with a specific interest in this condition.

Members of the Unit serve as lecturers in the Undergraduate Training Program, Continuing Education for residents at Hospital Clínic, and in biannual courses on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) organized by GETECCU for Gastroenterology residents. They also participate in several master’s programs: the Master’s Degree in Advanced Medical Skills and Therapeutics (University of Barcelona), the Master’s in Digestive Pathology (Catalan Society of Digestology in collaboration with the Open University of Catalonia – UOC), the Master’s in Translational Medicine (University of Barcelona), the Master’s in Advanced and Therapeutic Endoscopy, and the Master’s in IBD (Spanish Working Group on Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis – GETECCU).

Continuing Education

The members of the Unit regularly organize or take part in training courses, symposia, workshops, and national and international conferences on IBD aimed at gastroenterologists, internists, radiologists, primary care physicians, and pediatricians.

Each year, the Unit hosts 3rd- and 4th-year resident physicians from hospitals across Spain for a two-month training period. It also continuously welcomes physicians from around the world (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Portugal, Italy) for training stays lasting between two weeks and 12 months.

For nursing professionals, the goal is to train specialists to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals with IBD. The Unit’s nurses participate as lecturers in courses organized by the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Nursing Group, and as trainers in internship programs for nursing graduates within our Unit.
