Research - Unit of HIV-AIDS

The research carried out by the Clínic’s HIV-AIDS Unit is conducted through the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS), in the area of biological aggression and response mechanisms. Specifically, it is carried out by the following group:

  • AIDS and HIV infection

The group has published numerous original articles and reviews and is a leader in clinical, basic and translational research on the disease.

The HIV-AIDS Unit studies clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive aspects of HIV infection and co-infection with HIV and the hepatitis C virus (HCV), and is an international leader in clinical, basic and translational research on these diseases.

The HIV-AIDS Unit’s lines of research address the main challenges in the field of HIV infection: the cure and the development of effective vaccines. On the one hand, researchers are developing projects that explore the potential of new drugs and immunotherapy to reduce HIV reservoirs by boosting the immune system. On the other, the HIV Unit is a leading group in the development of new therapeutic and preventive vaccine models.

It is also part of the AIDS Research Network and coordinates various European H2020 projects.
