Treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection at the Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

The diagnosis and treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection at Hospital Clínic Barcelona involve the collaboration of different medical specialities. In many cases, the infection is detected and treated within primary care or by other medical specialities, such as internal medicine, particularly when investigations are carried out for digestive symptoms or anaemia. Diagnosis may also be made directly by Gastroenterology or Digestive Endoscopy if the patient is seen in these departments

Complex cases, such as infections that do not respond to initial treatment or situations requiring a more specialised assessment, are usually referred to the Gastroenterology Department, which works in collaboration with the Pathology and Microbiology Departments.

This coordinated approach allows for personalised care, particularly in patients with persistent infections or associated digestive disorders.

All standard diagnostic tests are available at the Clínic, including the urea breath test and the stool antigen test. Endoscopic biopsies carried out in the Digestive Endoscopy Unit also allow diagnosis. In certain cases, advanced microbiological tests may be carried out.
