Care for patients with Helicobacter pylori infection at the Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

The standard care pathway begins with a clinical assessment during the consultation, where the most appropriate diagnostic test is selected based on the patient’s symptoms and individual characteristics.

Once the infection has been confirmed, antibiotic treatment is prescribed and a follow-up test is scheduled to confirm that the infection has been eradicated. If the bacterium persists, alternative treatment regimens may be recommended. To confirm that the bacterium has been successfully eradicated, it is important to prepare properly for the follow-up test. Antibiotic treatment must have been completed at least 4 weeks prior to the test, and proton pump inhibitors must be discontinued approximately 2 weeks beforehand, as these medicines may affect the result, leading to false negatives.

If there are associated conditions, such as ulcers or severe gastritis, the follow-up is adapted to each patient’s specific situation.
