Myopia is the result of a complex interaction between genetic predisposition and environmental exposure, including:

  • Having parents with myopia.
  • Being of Asian origin.
  • Carrying out activities that require close distance, for example with reading material.
  • A lack of outdoor activity.
  • The opacity of the lens.
  • Having large ocular dimensions.
