Organización - Servicio de Área Operativa del Laboratorio Core
The CORE Operational Area is a cross-disciplinary area that centralizes, integrates and coordinates the most requested and automated healthcare activity in the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, Microbiology and Immunology Department.
This Area participates in the following Units:
And the Heart Failure healthcare area:
The healthcare activity is divided up into five work units: General Biochemistry, Special Biochemistry, Urinalysis, Haematology, Cytology and Haemostasis, Immunoassay and Continuous Care and Emergencies.
- Continuous care and emergencies. This is a laboratory that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and studies haematology and biochemistry tests related to medical emergencies using automated analysers and manual and automated microscopy techniques.
- General biochemistry. This laboratory is responsible for analysing the most commonly requested biochemical parameters using automated methods based on molecular absorption spectrometry and potentiometry.
- Special biochemistry. Special tests, light chains, proteinograms or alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes are examined using methods based on turbidimetry and capillary electrophoresis.
- Urinalysis. The macroscopic, biochemical and microscopic characteristics of urine are examined using automated methods based on colorimetry and manual and automated microscopic analysis of urinary sediment.
- Haematology, Cytology and Haemostasis. This is divided up into two main areas: the automation area, consisting of automated haematometry, based on the use of flow cytometers, and the haemostasis area, based on the use of automatic coagulometers. And the manual cytology area based on manual and automated microscopic analysis of peripheral blood smears and biological fluids.
- Immunoassay. The most frequently requested tests in the laboratory, such as hormones, tumour markers, serology markers, etc. are analysed using automated methods based on chemiluminescent immunoassays.
- Point-of-care testing (POCT) The laboratory is responsible for validating the POCT equipment at the Hospital Clínic, training staff and supervising its use to ensure fast and reliable results that support immediate patient care.
Currently, around 5,621,000 measurements are taken annually in the scheduled activity area. The target response time for tests in this area is 24 hours, with a compliance rate of over 99%.
The continuous activity laboratory performs around 2,079,000 measurements annually. The average response time target for tests in this area is one hour, with a compliance rate of over 95%.
