Organization - Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service

The Hospital Clínic Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology Service is a centre of excellence in all fields in its speciality: teaching, research and innovation, and clinical management.

The main aim of the Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology Service is to provide patients with musculoskeletal disorders with efficient, top-quality medical care based on available scientific evidence.

The patients mainly come from the Barcelona Esquerra Integrated Health Area (AISBE), but it is also a referral centre for highly complex pathologies in patients from the so-called C-17 Network (made up of hospitals in Mollet, Granollers, Sant Celoni, Vic and Campdevànol) and other centres in Catalonia. The patients access the service from the A&E Department, the Outpatient Department and Specialized Primary Care clinics, where patients derived from the 17 outpatient clinics in the catchment area are treated. Patients with highly complex pathologies also arrive through direct consultation from other hospitals.

The Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology Service receives over 54,000 visits a year and performs all kinds of surgery in its specialty. The OST Service, made up of 52 specialists and 15 residents, is divided up into five sections and two working groups:

  • Traumatology Section
  • Knee Section
  • Hip Section
  • Upper Extremity Section – Arthroscopy
  • Community Injury and Traffic Accident Section
  • Foot and Ankle Working Group
  • Spine and Tumours Working Group
