Treatment of Dry Eye Disease at the Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

The Institute of Ophthalmology at Hospital Clínic treats more than 1,500 patients with dry eye syndrome, approximately 200 new cases each year. Some of these patients have Sjögren's syndrome, an autoimmune disease with systemic manifestations.

Multidisciplinary collaboration with specialists from the Autoimmune Disease Service, in the case of dry eye syndrome associated with Sjögren's syndrome, allows for the highest quality, individualized diagnosis and treatment.

Recently, objective clinical diagnostic methods have been incorporated that allow for qualitative and quantitative measurement of tears, as well as detailed study of the meibomian glands. This allows for more specific treatment decisions and the possibility of comparing its effectiveness during follow-up visits.
