Care for patients with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) at Hospital Clínic Barcelona

Hospital Clínic Barcelona is renowned for its specialised, coordinated, and patient-centred approach. It is a National Reference Centre, Service, and Unit (CSUR) and forms part of the European Reference Networks (ERN), ensuring a high level of expertise and close coordination with other leading centres to tackle this type of disease.

Since December 2025, the Clínic has also been recognised as a Centre of Care by CurePSP, the leading American association for PSP, becoming one of the first centres outside the United States to receive this distinction.

The centre has an advanced practice nurse (APN), who plays a key role in direct patient care, nursing research and therapeutic education. In addition, a multidisciplinary therapeutic education programme has been developed for patients and their families, which complements clinical care and helps to improve quality of life.

The Clínic also organises an annual PSP conference, providing a space for information and exchange for patients, families and healthcare professionals.

Finally, the centre takes part in the most innovative clinical trials and uses the latest diagnostic techniques, in both clinical and research settings, ensuring patients benefit from the most up-to-date tools and follow-up care.

Each year, the team diagnoses several new cases of PSP and provides ongoing follow-up care for around a hundred people living with the condition.
