La Incontinencia Urinaria en el Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

The team dedicated to Pelvic Floor Diseases at the Hospital Clínic, Barcelona is a national leader in the diagnosis and treatment of women with urinary incontinence, overactive bladder and bladder emptying dysfunction. These urinary disorders may be related with other problems, such as pelvic organ prolapse, anal incontinence, defecatory dysfunction or certain sexual dysfunctions. We treat patients referred from primary care centres in the area, as well as complex cases referred from other hospitals in Catalonia.

Women's care is provided by a team of doctors, nurses and physiotherapists at our centre, who are experts in Digestive Motility, Functional Urology, Physiotherapy or Sexology. Teamwork provides a multidisciplinary approach to pelvic floor dysfunctions.

Each year, we have over 400 initial visits for women with urinary incontinence and other urogynaecological dysfunctions; and we perform over 700 urodynamic studies; and around 1,000 pelvic floor ultrasounds. At the therapeutic level, we perform more than 100 surgeries per year for the correction of stress urinary incontinence and around 200 for the repair of genital prolapse; with over 500 nursing visits, related to the conservative treatment of these conditions, and over 600 subsequent follow-up visits.

The Hospital Clínic was a pioneer and is now a national and international benchmark in the functional study of patients with urinary incontinence and associated dysfunctions; using urodynamic studies with ultrasound of the pelvic structures involved in the function of the pelvic organs.
