Unit of Addictive Behaviors

The Addictive Behaviour Unit is dedicated to the comprehensive treatment of disorders related to substance use and pathological gambling in people living in the Esquerra de l’Eixample district. In addition, for many years the unit has been a benchmark in the treatment of alcohol use disorder, and currently treats the most complex cases in Catalonia that require tertiary care. The Unit offers high-quality, decisive and efficient, patient-centred care and has a teaching and research programme that strives for excellence in treatment. The Addictive Behaviour Unit is led by the Clínic Neurosciences Institute at the Hospital Clínic Barcelona.

The Unit’s activities are carried out in various areas (units?):

• Outpatient Department
• Care and Follow-up Centre
• Day Hospital
• Acute hospitalization ward
• Liaison psychiatry
• Primary care support programme

In the first visit, 3,000 people are seen, 14,000 follow-up visits are conducted, about 890 group therapy sessions are held, and 14,000 toxicological tests are performed on biological samples, primarily urine.
