The main objective of the Head and Neck Cancer Unit (UFTCC) is to provide excellent medical care to patients diagnosed with cancer affecting the neck, oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses and salivary glands. It treats patients from the Hospital Clínic Barcelona referral area and is linked to the C17 Cluster Hospitals (Vic, Mollet, Granollers and Sant Celoni) by the C17 oncology committee and provides support in complex processes.

Each year, around 250 new cases of patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) are seen, most of them malignant. Patients with NHC have a complex diagnosis and require treatments that in many cases can be mutilating. Speech, swallowing and breathing can be affected, directly affecting the patient's quality of life. This is why an integral and transversal vision of this pathology is necessary, from early diagnosis to functional rehabilitation. The main objective of the unit is that the patient receives the most effective and advanced treatment available and that, at the same time, the latter generates the lowest functional impact.

The Unit is made up of a multidisciplinary team with more than 30 highly specialized professionals and is equipped with all the latest technological and medical advances in the field of HNC. The Unit is a national and international benchmark in minimally invasive surgery, robotics, complex reconstructive techniques, as well as in organ preservation protocols with chemoradiotherapy, clinical trials and functional rehabilitation.

Meet our professionals

The Unit is made up of a multidisciplinary team that promotes integrated care for patients with head and neck cancer. This team works together in the areas of care, teaching, and clinical and translational research. It combines state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapies with the development of different research projects to facilitate early diagnosis, minimize surgical sequelae and evaluate new treatments based on clinical trials.
