Course of the condition

Reading time: 1 min

The course of alopecia varies with its cause and the timing of diagnosis:

  • Some forms, such as certain types of effluvium, are temporary and reversible.
  • Others may progress slowly over many years.
  • If scarring alopecias are left untreated, the follicles may be irreversibly destroyed.

Early diagnosis makes it possible to distinguish between benign processes, chronic conditions and those requiring urgent treatment. An individual plan can also be prepared to slow hair loss, preserve functioning follicles and promote recovery whenever possible.
