Alopecia research at the Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

Research in the field of alopecia is a core component of the Hospital Clínic’s activity, with projects and research lines focused on improving diagnosis, understanding pathophysiology and advancing the therapeutic management of hair disorders, particularly those of autoimmune origin.

The Dermatology Department has participated in clinical trials aimed at evaluating new therapeutic options, including studies in androgenetic alopecia, assessing oral minoxidil as a systemic treatment, and trials involving patients with alopecia areata, using oral JAK inhibitors, currently one of the most promising areas in this field.

The team also actively collaborates in multicentre studies and systematic clinical data collection projects, enabling the analysis of large patient cohorts and facilitating the identification of diagnostic patterns, prognostic factors and personalised therapeutic strategies.

Through this ongoing research, the Clínic contributes to the advance of scientific knowledge and the development of new tools that improve care and outcomes for patients with complex alopecias.
