Research of Alopecia

Reading time: 1 min

For many years, research into alopecia was limited by the complexity of the hair follicle and a lack of specific treatments. However, in recent years, progress has been made in several areas:

  • Autoimmune alopecias (such as alopecia areata): new-generation JAK inhibitors and combination therapies are being studied to control inflammation and promote hair regrowth.
  • Scarring alopecias (such as frontal fibrosing alopecia or lichen planopilaris): topical JAK inhibitors are being investigated to reduce inflammation and limit follicular loss, as treatment options have so far been very limited.
  • Androgenetic alopecia: research is focusing on new topical formulations, such as clascoterone, which may benefit patients who do not respond to or cannot tolerate current treatments.

These advances illustrate an important shift: a field that was once relatively stagnant is now evolving rapidly, offering more effective, safer and increasingly personalised treatment options for each type of alopecia.
